HO CHI MINH City – World Hand Hygiene Day at University Medical Center HCMC 10 July 2018

On 10 July, University Medical Center HCMC held a ceremony as the respond to the campaign "It's in your hand - Prevent sepsis in health care" organised by WHO.

According to the statistics of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) USA, around 2 million people are found contaminated by bacteria from hospitals. Meanwhile, this threatening issue can be easily tackle by a very simple and effective method: hand hygiene. Actually, the importance of hand hygiene  was discovered from the milestone research in infection control sector by Ignaz Phillip Semmelweis in 1884, accompanied with other research. Back to the present, hand hygiene may sound effortless to carry out, however, it demands consistence and unity from medical employees due to the neglectfulness. Therefore, World Health Organization (WHO) annually spreads out the campaign “World Hand Hygiene Day 05/05” with this year’s theme: “It’s is in your hand – Prevent sepsis in health care”. To advocate to this  campaign, Infection Control Department of University Medical Center HCMC has held a feast-day named “Let’s join hand – Prevent sepsis” with a chain of events from 11/06 to 10/7.

The program includes 3 parts:

  • Part 1: “Let’s join in” to show the unity through Hand Hygiene Commitment video capturing many activities such as: the hospital’s Management Committee considers hand hygiene as the quality evaluation index; Infection Control Department promotes hand hygiene to medical employees, patients and their families.
  • Part 2: “Let’s take part in the competition”, 722 medical employees from 31 departments in the whole hospital test their knowledge about hand hygiene with 50 online questions.
  • Part 3: Scientific Day with special subject “Hand Hygiene prevents hospital sepsis”. Management Committee and more than 200 medical employees, university students have created an exciting and joyful atmosphere when participating in fantastic activities.

For this time, pt medical is honor to accompany with Infection Control Department of University Medical Center HCMC to operate this meaningful event. Besides, we have arranged many activities at our booth for participants to attend. For example: answer questions about hand hygiene to get a special gift, check-in at pt medical with adorable mascot, try and feel touch-free dispensing system of Purell hand sanitizer product.
